Who is eligible for membership?<\/strong><br \/>Young Sk\u00e5l is open to all young professionals training for or working in the industry who are at least 20 years of age and not older than 29 years, who have been in the industry for a minimum of two years.<\/p>\n<p><strong>3. Why should Clubs recruit Young Sk\u00e5l members?<\/strong><br \/>The idea behind Young Sk\u00e5l is to ensure that Clubs attract new and young professionals training for or working in the industry who, when qualified, will automatically graduate to Active membership, thus ensuring a continuous supply of new and younger members.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.youngskalnow.org\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Click HERE for more information<\/a><\/p>\n<p>[\/et_pb_text][\/et_pb_column][et_pb_column type=&#8221;1_2&#8243; _builder_version=&#8221;3.26.3&#8243; _i=&#8221;1&#8243; _address=&#8221;0.1.1&#8243;][et_pb_image src=&#8221;https:\/\/skalmontreuxvevey.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/Young_Skal.jpg&#8221; _builder_version=&#8221;3.26.3&#8243; _i=&#8221;0&#8243; _address=&#8221;0.1.1.0&#8243;][\/et_pb_image][\/et_pb_column][\/et_pb_row][et_pb_row _builder_version=&#8221;3.26.3&#8243; _i=&#8221;2&#8243; _address=&#8221;0.2&#8243;][et_pb_column type=&#8221;4_4&#8243; _builder_version=&#8221;3.26.3&#8243; _i=&#8221;0&#8243; _address=&#8221;0.2.0&#8243;][et_pb_text _builder_version=&#8221;3.27.4&#8243; _i=&#8221;0&#8243; _address=&#8221;0.2.0.0&#8243;]<\/p>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: center;\">Young Sk\u00e5l: The Future of Sk\u00e5l<\/h3>\n<p>Young Sk\u00e5l Groups were set up by Sk\u00e5l International in 1999 with the aim of creating a greater awareness of Sk\u00e5l International by those young people studying for or training in the various sectors of the travel and tourism industry.<\/p>\n<p>At the time of creation, the definition of Young Sk\u00e5l and its relationship to Sk\u00e5l International was given as follows:<\/p>\n<p><em>Young Sk\u00e5l is a student or young professional non-profit making organisation which is directly related to the hotel, tourism, leisure and passenger transport industry. Young Sk\u00e5l is a restricted Sk\u00e5l International category and as such Group members are not entitled to full Sk\u00e5l International membership or to hold office or vote in the sponsoring Club or at any level in Sk\u00e5l International.<\/em><br \/><em>Group members can only attend national or international congresses or meetings as an accompanying person of an active or life member of Sk\u00e5l International or if specifically invited.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>The requirements to become a Young Sk\u00e5l member are:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u2022 To be a student at an authorised educational establishment which grants a degree or recognised diploma upon completion of studies.<br \/>\u2022 To be a young professional training for or working in the industry.<br \/>\u2022 To be at least 18 years of age and not older than 29.<\/p>\n<p><strong>The Objectives of Young Sk\u00e5l agreed were the following:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u2022 To develop friendship and common purpose between the students of the educational establishment, by participating in areas related to the tourism industry, but also in cultural, sports, travel and public relations activities.<br \/>\u2022 To encourage and assist in the tourism education or experience of the members by participating in Sk\u00e5l activities and meeting Sk\u00e5l members<br \/>\u2022 To cooperate voluntarily in all Sk\u00e5l activities and the organisation set up by the sponsoring Club.<br \/>\u2022 To promote training opportunities for its members and to acquire professional experience with the support of the local Sk\u00e5l Club.<br \/>\u2022 To ensure that its members are fully aware of Sk\u00e5l, locally, nationally and internationally.<br \/>\u2022 To participate in an international network of Young Sk\u00e5l Groups.<\/p>\n<p>[\/et_pb_text][et_pb_text _builder_version=&#8221;3.27.4&#8243; _i=&#8221;1&#8243; _address=&#8221;0.2.0.1&#8243;]<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-250 alignleft size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/skalmontreuxvevey.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/young-Skal.jpg\" alt=\"young Skal\" width=\"400\" height=\"350\" srcset=\"https:\/\/skalmontreuxvevey.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/young-Skal.jpg 400w, https:\/\/skalmontreuxvevey.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/young-Skal-300x263.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 400px) 100vw, 400px\" \/>The first Clubs were established in 1999. A number of them worked well and others not so well. Some were happy to stay closely connected to the local Sk\u00e5l Clubs and others felt that they should have a life of their own. Some were happy to be involved with the local Club and others felt that the age gap in certain cases was too great. Another problem which arose that some Young Sk\u00e5l Groups consisted mainly of a particular class in a tourism school and when term ended they went in all directions looking for experience and left the Group devoid of members and trying to establish a Group all over again. There was also a difficulty in getting membership fees paid due to the transient nature of the Groups.<\/p>\n<p>It was clear to the Executive Committee that while the principal of Young Sk\u00e5l was good, in practice it was not working as it should. The Executive Committee therefore took the project back to the drawing board and in Durban in 2004 it was agreed that a new category of Young Sk\u00e5l within Sk\u00e5l International would be created. The Objectives of Young Sk\u00e5l remain the same as outlined earlier in the document above The principal differences to the original project are the following:<\/p>\n<p>Young Sk\u00e5l Groups have been incorporated into the local Sk\u00e5l Clubs in a special category which has been created.<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 No minimum number necessary<br \/>\u2022 Easier for local Sk\u00e5l Clubs to recruit young people studying for or training in the industry<br \/>\u2022 Young Sk\u00e5l members are members of the local Club and dues are collected in the normal way. Young Sk\u00e5l international membership fee remains at 30 CHF<br \/>\u2022 Young Sk\u00e5l should be represented on the board of the local Sk\u00e5l Club as observers. Young Sk\u00e5l members automatically have all the benefits of Active membership through the Sk\u00e5l International website.<br \/>\u2022 Minimum age for admission to Young Sk\u00e5l raised to 20 years<br \/>\u2022 Maximum age extended from 29 years to 35 years. Those Young Sk\u00e5l members who have reached 29 years of age may continue as members in a Young Sk\u00e5l Associate membership category until the age of 35 years.<br \/>\u2022 At 35 years of age, if not eligible for Active membership, they must leave the Club.<br \/>\u2022 Clubs may transfer Young Sk\u00e5l members who qualify to Active membership at any time, once eligibility has been established.<br \/>\u2022 Young Sk\u00e5l members may attend Sk\u00e5l World Congresses availing themselves of possible special discounts at the discretion of the host Club.<\/p>\n<p>Young Sk\u00e5l members who leave the training institute and do not enter the industry or if employed depart from an industry position would cease to be eligible for membership. Sk\u00e5l cares about young professionals and students in tourism and, as mentioned above, has created a special category in order for them to be able to join Sk\u00e5l. Many Clubs provide scholarships for students in tourism. Young people are bringing to Sk\u00e5l their innovative power and they will benefit from the experience of the active members who may become prospective employers. In the hard competitive world, as Sk\u00e5l embraces all sectors of the tourism industry, it can act as an oasis free of competition, where they can find protection and support and they might even meet their mentors!<\/p>\n<p>Sk\u00e5l Clubs should take care when selecting Young Sk\u00e5l members to ensure that the management intentions and potential are clearly evident to avoid situations whereby Young Sk\u00e5l members have to leave the Club at the age of 35 because they are not eligible for Active membership.<\/p>\n<p>To facilitate the international connection which Young Sk\u00e5l members can have by being members of the local Sk\u00e5l Club, an adjustment will be made to the Sk\u00e5l International website, \u201cmembers only\u201c area so that all Young Sk\u00e5l members can be selected by country, thus enabling a greater international networking opportunity between them.<\/p>\n<p>Finally, returning to the reason for Young Sk\u00e5l, Clubs should be fully aware that the principle is to create a greater awareness of Sk\u00e5l among young people studying for or training in the industry and to make Active membership in Sk\u00e5l a natural progression.
